July 15/22 21:11 pm - Barusseau Wins Stage 5 of Abitibi

Mathéo Barusseau from Team France took his second stage win at the Tour de l'Abitibi on Friday in a sprint, winning Stage 5 and regaining the overall lead in the race; Barusseau also won the opening stage. Stage 5 finished at the top of Mont Bell, the first ever mountain top finish for Tour de l'Abitibi. Luke Valenti (Toronto Hustle Junior Cycling) finished second, adding to his lead in the Polka Dot Jersey competition for climbers. Fergus English from Team Canada took third.

The stage was marked by a solo break away from Ethan Powell (Team KW Cycling) for about 50 kilometres. A chasing group finally caught up to him around Val-Senneville and they continued the race together for about 20 kilometres before the peloton rejoined them. There were several break away attempts during the rest of the stage, but the riders arrived at the finish as a peloton.

In the general classification, Barusseau took back the Blue jersey for the Best First Year, while Valenti continues to hold the Polka Dot jersey for the fifth stage in a row. Mathieu Dupé (Team France) kept his Brown (overall leader) and Orange (Points) jerseys.

Justin Roy (Team Quebec), who came into the stage second overall and wearing the Blue Jersey, unfortunately did not take the start of the stage, following his crash at the end of Stage 4.
